Quick Health Tips

PROVIDED BY THE MEDICAL EMERGENCY RESPONSE TEAM

An emergency can occur at any time, suddenly and without warning. The Medical Emergency Response Team (MERT) wants to ensure, in the event of a medical emergency, we are as prepared as possible to take effective action to protect our participants. Proper planning is essential to prevent or minimize the impact of any emergency. The Medical Emergency Response Team has been designed to provide Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. with a medical emergency response team that will facilitate appropriate coordinated medical support at our organizational events.

REMINDERS

  • Pack all medicines, prescriptions, inhalers, EpiPens, glucose meters, breathing machines and associated medications, masks, nebulizers, etc.

  • Carry a list of your medications and reasons for use.

  • Ensure a list of your medical conditions is included on your medication list.

  • Carry a list of your allergies, including both medication and food allergies.

  • Always carry your updated insurance/medical card.

  • Carry your immunization card.

  • Drink plenty of water.

  • Eat regularly throughout the day.

  • Take your medication as prescribed. When traveling, this is critical; please eat before taking your medication. DO NOT take your medication, ESPECIALLY insulin, without eating FIRST! Also, DO NOT skip meals or medication, as they often go hand in hand unless your prescription says otherwise.

  • Always wear comfortable clothes and shoes.

  • In the event of extreme temperature changes in the weather or conference rooms, please have a jacket, wrap, or coat available to prevent catching a cold.

AVOIDING RESPIRATORY INFECTIONS

  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick. If needed, practice social distancing by remaining at least six feet apart.

  • Stay home when you are sick.

  • Wear a mask, if needed, and make sure it covers your mouth and nose when indoors in the presence of others.

  • Wash your hands thoroughly and often

  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.

  • Practice good health habits, such as getting plenty of rest and sleep, being physically active, managing your stress, drinking plenty of water, and eating nutritious food.

  • COVID, pneumonia, and the flu are STILL occurring. These viruses are still active and spreading, and no disease cares about your color, race, or age.

The Medical Emergency Response Team will be visible, so if you are experiencing any medical issues, please notify the designated Sorors.
